2026 Apr – York

On the Thursday as we arrived the sun came out and we were sunbathing in the hot sunshine. What a change from that for the rest of the weekend till the Tuesday morning when we all left. Storm David hit us quite literally. The vans were rocking with the strong gusts of wind the storm threw at us.

During the daytimes many went off to York to explore the city and some ventured into Pocklington too.

The evenings were filled with entertainment and games that made up for the bad weather.

On Thursday evening everyone got together and chatted over drinks with a quiz from the Chairman.

On Good Friday the next village was holding its annual Good Friday Duck Race. This was held at The Derwent Arms Osbaldwick. Some walked , some cycled there in the showery conditions to see the race.

On Good Friday evening we had singer Claire Coupland. She did 2 sessions and was great entertainment. Then we  asked her to judge the best dressed table competition. There were quite a few to choose from, but eventually she chose The New Friends, made up of couples from East Midlands, Yorkshire and Lancashire. Then in second place the Funky Chickens  made up from Blackpool, Cheshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire.

Then came the most unwelcome Storm David, need I say more! Not the best weather for an Easter weekend but we made the best of it. On the evening we held our Big Easter Raffle, and had a game of Bingo, along with an Easter quiz.

On Easter Sunday the site also welcomed a dog show. So there were many beautiful dogs to be seen waking about before going into the exhibition hall for judging. The on site café was open for Sunday for breakfasts and Sunday lunches.  In the evening we had an Easter bonnet competition , which was judged by first timer Ann. There were so many to chose from , eventually it was won by Beryl Taylor from Lancashire branch.

After that we had a game of Play Your Cards Right, which was won by Heather Castle from Yorkshire.

Monday evening was filled with Silly games and there were many laughts as we played these.

Attending the rally were- 2 vans from East Midlands, 6 vans from Lancashire, 3 vans from Nene Valley, 4 vans from Northern Counties, 1 van from the motorcycle group and 23 from Yorkshire. There were 7 vans  attending who were first timers.
